What is Advance Provisioning Allowance (A.P.A.)?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is an amount of money that the charterer pays upfront to cover the costs of expenses during the charter, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees, and other miscellaneous expenses. The APA is usually calculated as a percentage of the yacht's charter fee, and typically ranges from 20% to 30%.

The APA is managed by the yacht's captain or the designated onboard accountant, who uses the funds to cover expenses during the charter. The captain or accountant will provide the charterer with regular updates on how the APA funds are being spent, and at the end of the charter, they will provide the charterer with a detailed account of all expenses.

If the total expenses exceed the APA amount, the charterer may be asked to top up the APA during the charter. Alternatively, if there is any unused balance in the APA at the end of the charter, the charterer may receive a refund of the remaining amount.

The APA helps to simplify the accounting and payment process for chartering a yacht, and ensures that there are sufficient funds available to cover expenses during the charter. It is important for charterers to fully understand the APA system and how it works before embarking on a yacht charter.
